Moelfre Over 50's Club

Moelfre over 50’s Club established in 2000 with a restricted membership of 80 members meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Library at 2.00pm.

The Club aims to provide a quality balanced programme of activities appealing to older people – over the years numerous National and UK awards have been won including their latest awards in 2007, the Calor Gas Village of the Year - Older People Category North Wales, and the inaugural Isle of Anglesey Community Partnership Awards ‘Best Club 2007’

Nordic Walking Club
As part of Moelfre over 50’s Club activities, a new Nordic Walking Club has been set up and meets regularly – 20 set of poles are available locally.

Nordic Walking is highly effective, affordable and FUN. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.

Nordic Walking uses poles in order to add two major benefits to walking

  • The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs
  • The poles help to propel the walker along – this means he/she works harder than usual yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier!

If interested in participating in this activity contact Ann Trigg on 01248 410565.

Visit by Assembly Minister Andrew Davies
In December 2008 Moelfre over 50’s club and Hafan Day Care received a visit by Assembly Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery Mr Andrew Davies, who met and talked with club members, and of the impact all the activities for older people held at the school were having on their lives – Mr Davies was very impressed, in particular of the voluntary input of club members and officers.

Since 2001 Mr Davies is the fourth Assembly Minister to view our project involving older people locally.

On his departure Mr Davies was presented with a Keith Shone print of Swnt, which we understand hangs proudly in his office at Cardiff Bay.
