PLACES OF WORSHIP

St Gallgo Church, Llanallgo, Isle of Anglesey

This historic Church dates from the 7th century, and buried in the grounds are the victims of the wreck of the Royal Charter, including the rector at the time Stephen Roose Hughes, following that fateful day in 1859.

 

To locate this Church take the turn sign-posted Amlwch A5025 at the traffic island at Llanallgo, the church is approximately 200 metres on the left hand side of the road.

 

Services: Sunday at 8.30a.m. – English Service. 10.00a.m. – Welsh Service

 

 

St Michael’s Church Penrhosllugwy, Isle of Anglesey

This Church and churchyard are also the burial place of victims of the Royal Charter shipwreck, the rector at the time Hugh Robert Hughes, the brother of the Llanallgo Church rector Stephen Roose Hughes who helped with victims during the tragic event.

 

To locate this Church take the turning in the village of Brynrefail on the A5025 by Brynrefail Crafts, and follow this narrow lane towards Bodafon Mountain for approximately 600 metres

 

Services: Sunday at 11.30am, bilingual, mainly English.

 

 

Paradwys Chapel Llanallgo, Isle of Anglesey      (Paradwys = Paradise)

This large Calvinistic Methodist Chapel overlooking Moelfre Bay is located at Llanallgo, directly by a traffic island at the junction of the A5025 and the A5108 leading down to the maritime village of Moelfre.

Services: Sunday at 10.00 a.m. – including the Sunday school at the same time, with its varied programme of activities that the local children / young people enjoy.



Carmel Chapel Moelfre

Carmel Congregational Chapel built in 1829, has strong connections with the sea. Corpses from the wreck of the Royal Charter were brought into Carmel, and most of the 28 men involved in the human chain at the rescue were chapel members.

Nowadays the Chapel is involved in charity work the main one being Operation Xmas Child, where boxes are sent abroad to children in need. 866 were sent in 2008.

To locate this Chapel follow the A5108 down to the village of Moelfre at the traffic island at Llanallgo, and follow the road past the beach area for approximately 300 metres.

Services: Welsh or bilingual mainly, but English services are held every Sunday in August at 10.30am

 

 

Church of our Lady of Lourdes Benllech, Isle of Anglesey

This Catholic Church is the nearest to Moelfre, and is located on Beach Road Benllech.
To locate this church take the left turn on the A5025 (from the Amlwch direction) at the Square / opposite Gwynfryn Garage in Benllech and proceed on Beach Road for approximately 200metres

Services: Sunday Mass 10.30am, with extra Mass at 9.00am in the summer (from 7th June)
